How this estimate is made

Estimate from the 2025 DTMO table. DTMO publishes 2026 BAH rates on its BAH Rate Lookup. This site has not imported them yet, so the amount above is the 2025 rate for the same housing area, grade, and dependency status. Check the 2026 rate on DTMO for current housing allowance.

BAH uses the housing area (MHA), not the ZIP code. The bulk table does not include the ZIP-to-MHA mapping, and the DTMO ZIP lookup is protected by reCAPTCHA, so this calculator does not use ZIP codes.

What is not shown

Tax: BAH is excluded from gross income. IRS Publication 3, Armed Forces’ Tax Guide (2025), lists BAH in Table 2 (excluded items), and certain expenses paid with excluded BAH can still be deducted.

Does BAH depend on rank, dependency status, and the duty station ZIP code?

Yes. DTMO sets BAH by the member’s rank, dependency status, and permanent duty station ZIP code. This page uses housing areas from the 2025 file, not a ZIP lookup.

Did the Abilene (TX270) rate change in 2026?

Yes. DoW temporarily increased 2026 BAH for the Abilene, TX and Dyess AFB housing area (TX270), effective May 16, 2026, and expiring December 31, 2026. The increase averages about 24%, between 18% and 28% depending on pay grade and dependency status. This page does not show the 2026 Abilene figures.

Does BAH apply overseas?

DTMO describes BAH for members assigned to permanent duty within the 50 United States who are not furnished government housing. Overseas assignments use overseas housing allowance (OHA), which this site does not publish.
